Your exhilarating rafting adventure at Victoria Falls is set to commence with a convenient hotel pick-up scheduled between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM. Before you dive into the excitement, be sure to check your email for the indemnity forms that must be signed prior to your adventure. It’s wise to dress in light, quick-drying clothing that you won’t mind getting soaked, and don’t forget appropriate footwear for this thrilling experience. Protecting your skin from the strong African sun is crucial, so be sure to apply sunscreen generously before you embark on this journey.

The nature of your rafting experience will greatly depend on the season of your visit. During the low water season, which typically spans from August to December, those opting for a Full Stretch rafting adventure will enjoy a brief 5-minute drive to reach the top of the canyon. Conversely, if you select a High Water (Half Stretch) rafting adventure during the high water season—usually from January to mid/end March and again from June to July—be prepared for a 15-kilometer drive to the river. Upon arrival at the canyon’s summit, you will be outfitted with essential safety gear, including a life jacket, a windbreaker (in case of rain), helmets, and paddles if you choose a paddle raft.

Your head guide will provide a comprehensive safety briefing to ensure your readiness before you tackle the steep descent into the gorge, followed by a walk along the gorge floor to the put-in point. Here, your guide will assign positions and lead a practice run in calmer waters to familiarize you with the raft. With your heart racing, the adventure truly kicks off as you navigate the roaring rapids. In the low water season, you will journey through 26 kilometers and conquer 19 exhilarating rapids, most rated at grades 4 or 5.

However, during the high water season, the distance may vary between 18 and 24 kilometers depending on the specific stretch booked, and some rapids may be bypassed altogether. It’s essential to note that rafting activities may be suspended during April and May due to fluctuating water levels. Prepare yourself to face the infamous rapids, each with intimidating names designed to instill a sense of awe and excitement in adventurers, such as “The Terminators,” “The Mother,” and “The Washing Machine.” Our seasoned guides are adept at maneuvering through the challenging waters of the mighty Zambezi, ensuring a memorable and thrilling experience.

While you’ll be gripped by the adrenaline of the rapids, take a moment to absorb the stunning beauty and serene ambiance of the breathtaking Batoka gorge surrounding you. After the exhilarating rafting experience, you will face a steep climb out of the gorge. While you don’t need to be an elite athlete, a reasonable level of fitness is advisable, so take your time and pace yourself. Upon reaching the top, a refreshing reward awaits you with cold beers, a delicious braai, and fresh veggies, before you are driven back to your hotel, concluding an unforgettable day filled with adventure and camaraderie.
